50s Day Happy Day

We just celebrated the 50th Day of School.  My teacher friends in first grade and I got together to have some counting fun.  We all dressed in poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, leather jackets, pink scarves, and the whole group looked fabulous.  During the morning we counted to 50 by 2s, 5s, and 10s.  We did a lot of special activities with goldfish (for counting and eating).  We made entries in out math journals to celebrate the use of the 0.
We practiced dancing just like they did in the 50s.  We watched a few videos from YouTube to help out.
Then in the afternoon we got to have an old fashioned Sock Hop in the auditorium.  There were bubble gum blowing contests and hoola hoop contests.  We even did the Limbo.  There was a whole lot of shaking going on during the dance time. To end the day we had yummy root beer floats.  Can you believe that some of the kiddos had never had one?  It was a super fun day for all.
